Beach meets business

Durban Central is a diverse, colourful neighbourhood that includes the beachfront areas, the Berea, Morningside, Glenwood, Musgrave and the CBD. The beach is the biggest attraction and locals flock the promenade to cycle, run, surf, swim, fish or just catch some sun. There are also incredibly lush parks and open spaces dotted around the neighbourhod for residents to take advantage of. The nightlife in Durban Central is exciting with numerous bars, pubs, restaurants and night clubs in close proximity to each other. As its name implies, Durban Central's location makes it convenient to get to any of the other areas around Durban.

There are many options for Durbanites looking for entertainment. For a good meal you can head for one of the restaurants on the beachfront, Wilsons Wharf in the harbour area or join the trendy crowd in Florida Road. The Suncoast casino has loads of entertainment options as do the many shopping centres.

The CBD is the main business hub in Durban. A number of large businesses have their offices in the area and it is still a thriving retail centre.

The Golden Mile stretches from Ushaka to the Suncoast Casino Complex. Its broad promenades make it perfect for running, cycling, walking the dog or skateboarding. The warm waters, protected by lifeguards and shark nets, are popular for swimming and surfing.

The iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium was one of the host stadiums for the 2010 World Cup. It is close to the Kings Park Stadium which is home to the Sharks rugby franchise. Adjacent to the stadium is the Peoples Park, popular with families for its play area, cafe and sports fields. Other parks popular with parents are the Botanical Gardens, Bulwer Park and Mitchell park which also has a small zoo.

There are many excellent schools located in Durban Central including Treetops Primary School, Durban High School, Maris Stella, Marist Brothers, Clifton Preparatory School, Glenwood Preparatory and Durban Girls College.

Built in the early 1900's, the Durban City Hall houses the Durban Art Gallery, the Natural Science Museum, the Durban Art Gallery and municipal chambers.
